SCP-5003

Item #: SCP-5003

Object Class: Safe

Laconic Containment Procedures: None, it's been sealed.

Laconic Description: SCP-5003 is a massive power station located deep beneath Site-19 with an unidentified, endless power source.

Additional Context: A researcher and D-Class are sent into it to run tests but the researcher is accidentally incapacitated, the entrance is closed, and the lights in the long tunnel they entered from go out. The article follows communications between D-3481 and Site Command as D-3481 runs tests and takes measurements in the researcher's stead. In the end, D-3481 is ordered to hit the kill switch for the power source but refuses, saying he would rather starve in the light than die in the dark.

Brief supplements at the end of each communication log indicate Site Command's reaction to D-3481's data. These very subtly indicate that the power source of SCP-5003 is an anomaly that is becoming unstable and that D-3481 was sent to ultimately shut it off. The last supplement says that Site-19 is being evacuated, implying that the source is dangerous and, to some degree, waking up.

SCP-5003 was an entry in the SCP-5000 Contest, where it won 8th place.
