SCP-4991

Item #: SCP-4991

Object Class: Keter Neutralized

Laconic Containment Procedures: Delete posts made during SCP-4991 on any website on which they appear. In the meantime play the whole thing off as an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) if any evidence of the event still exists.

The whole world's memories of the event have been wiped by Class-K Amnestics, too.

Laconic Description: An event during which nobody could access social media. After it ended, social media sites worldwide were filled with posts suggesting the world was suffering an insect-induced apocalypse with global casualties. Several posts from platforms such as Twitter, 4chan, tumblr, and Reddit are provided.

Additional Context: The title of SCP-4991, ">So this is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but with a shitpost." is a slightly misquoted reference to the work The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot, and English poet; the work's most quoted stanza reads:

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

…combined with 4chan greentext formatting and the mention of a shitpost instead of whimper.
