SCP-272

Item #: SCP-272

Object Class: Safe

Laconic Containment Procedures: Keep it in a box and don't drop it.

Laconic Description: SCP-272 is an ancient iron nail with mysterious engravings. When the nail is dropped onto a subject's shadow, it will bury itself into whatever the shadow is cast on. This "pins" their shadow down, essentially trapping them. The subject can only move in a way that keeps their shadow cast on the nail. The subject can't remove the nail themselves; they need the help of someone else.

Additional Context: Some of the Foundation's findings:

  • The subject is free to move when no shadow is cast (EG: nighttime).
  • If the lighting changes, the subject will be dragged by their shadow (violently, if the lighting change is rapid and the distance is far enough)
  • SCP-272 can hold only one subject at a time, showing preference for the younger person.
  • If subject attempts to dig the nail out or attack it, the subject will die painfully.
