Item #: SCP-2003
Object Class: Thaumiel
Laconic Containment Procedures: Don’t let unauthorized people near it and make sure a preferable future stays intact.
Laconic Description: SCP-2003 is a machine that teleports its user into the future; after spending a few months there they will return to Earth time around the same time they left. The Foundation uses it to look into possible future timelines and pull strings in current time to affect causality and make the future more desirable. The current “Preferred Option” is one where normalcy is maintained until a meteor wipes out humanity in the year 2349.
Additional Context: Almost all other most-likely-to-occur future timelines involve the destruction of all life on Earth from asteroids, GRBs, nuclear wars, paradoxes, and the like.
The final future listed is one where humanity lives long enough to leave Earth and colonize other galaxies and is so far in the future that SCP-2003 can only access part of it, implying humanity basically survives forever; the Foundation evaluates whether or not to adjust their actions today to bring about that world tomorrow. The option to change today to create that reality is linked to SCP-001 (Kalinin's Proposal).
SCP-2003 was an entry in the SCP-2000 Contest, where it won 5th place.
