Item #: SCP-1001

Object Class: Euclid

Laconic Containment Procedures: Keep SCP-1001 in a secure greenhouse, water and fertilize it now and then, and feed it ground-up pig or dog meat once a week. Don't give it any bones or horns and don't let anyone make cognitohazardous noises within earshot.

Laconic Description: SCP-1001 is a a carnivorous Welwitschia plant that can grab you with long, sticky leaves and drag you into a big "stomach" full of acid. It can also mimic sounds near-perfectly, including mimicking the voices of people it's heard. We don't know how smart it is, though, because it won't communicate with us.

It'll eat any animal if it's hungry enough, but it prefers intelligent animals like humans, monkeys, and dolphins — the smarter the better. It can't digest bones; instead, it arranges them into weird underground patterns. It's implied that the patterns might be magic diagrams. When we found it, it was making the local people give it human sacrifices.
